In case anyone was wondering, I need 8 1/4" inputs for my Yamaha dtxtreme IIs edrum set, which has 8 individual outs, all 1/4". Of course, I still need XLR inputs with phantom power, but that is of secondary importance I suppose. I have a preamp that I use for vox, but I really just need 8 1/4" inputs.

 And then there is this thing: Call me ignorant, but I can't quite tell whether each track would show up in my software or not with this product.Īnd honestly, I don't need good mic pres. I'm not sure which is technically faster, but I suppose that whicher one I find at the lowest price would be the best one. This is the mixers I've found that has all the channel requirements I need: And then there's the USB 2.0 version.

Then again, we are talking about a cheap mixer here and not a pro board. From what I have heard, people seem very pleased with Alesis. The brands on my "don't buy list," so far are: Beh#$%^er, Ph%$ic H*lix, and I've just never had any personal experience with Alesis. Actually, I just want something inexpensive right now, since I'm out of work. Also spend time talking to your friends that record and find out what there opinions are too, it helps to get advice when making a important decision about your interface. Often times it may steer you to something you did not expect. I would suggest you go to places like and and search the reviews of the different products to get a better idea of what people think about the money they spent on the specific products. Consider what you are doing and what your long range goals are so that your box will better suit you as you get older and expand or contract. Again check the forums to see what people are saying about issues with DAW's and such. It all depends on what you like and who you trust. I am sure that Alesis have great boxes too. One of the great moderators here, Remy uses the Alesis. The Firestudio 2626 are nice in my opinion, I am not sure about that alesis box. I being a mac fan chose the presonus based on a great review I read in my favorite mag Tape Op. Check the PreSonus forum to see what they say, that is if you are curious:

There are driver issues with the different boxes too. Be sure to check the forums for which DAW you preffer.

Plus it comes with something like Cuebase LE(i forgot), which I know nothing about since it does not work with intel based macs.Ĭertainly there are issues with all the different boxes. ****Just found this and it might work for you Yarko.I'm gonna try it myself.I believe you can still get a PreSonus FireStudio at amazon for around $540.

So, as the OP asked, is there a way to downgrade the installed media center to what would be XP Home? Or do I need to install Home from a disc? By the way Yarko, I don't know about where you live but I see people selling legit copies of XP on Craigslist all the time. I have no use at all for XP pro, I'm not using that pc for anything except recording and the occasional ripping/burning discs.

So I figured, like the OP, I have no choice but to "downgrade" to XP Home from Media Center. I'm not willing to roll the dice with those kinds of odds.

If you have media center and want to record tracks to your pc, it's most likely not gonna work and if it does work it's probably not going to be very stable. Alesis Io26 Drivers For Mac Windows 7 Mac OS X (10.4.11 - 10.8), Windows 7, Vista, and XP compatible 8 Alesis High Definition Mic/Line Preamplifiers built in (2 switchable highimpedance inputs for direct guitar and bass recording) Switchable Phantom Power for each channel pair.

I did some searching and found that none of the interfaces by any company supports media center. I was thinking and hoping it wouldn't matter, because media center is just xp with the media center features, right? Well, media center and home recording apparently don't go together except for a few rare cases where people got lucky. I was actually just about to spend a few hundred on an Alesis io26 audio interface when I discovered media center isn't supported. I have xp media center on a pc I wanted to use for a home studio. It's a known issue that recording/mixing interfaces and most DAW programs don't work with media center. The reason I want to downgrade is because Windows Media is not capable on doing home recording, Home edition i able to do that.

Is there any way to downgrade to XP Home from windows media edition without having to buy the program, I don't want to spend 150$ on downgrading something.
